In the Yoga Sutra's of Patanjali, Patanjali defines asana in two words: sthira and sukham. Sthira means stabilitiy, steadiness, firmness and its root is stha which means "to stand". Sukham means  ease, comfort, happiness. In our practices we are looking to find a harmony - agreement - between these 2 states.
